..... We have a dog.
For ages now we have enjoyed looking after friend's dogs, and always wanted to have one of our own, but were apprehensive of the life change, responsibility, muddy paw prints everywhere, how would the cats feel? So for years, we just kept saying, the right dog will find us at the right time.
So, there I am waiting at the Vets with one of our cats for a check up, when in walks a little dog who came running over to me, put her paws on my knees and wanted a cuddle. The lady she was with, it turns out, was her foster mum, and they were looking for that all important Forever Home for Millie the dog.- a 3year old Romanian stray.
Millie was being fostered at a very loving home near us, and had come to the UK from Romania via the charity Saving Romanian Strays - who even knew they existed? We do now. She was one of a huge number of stray street dogs, saved from life on the streets, fully health checked and lucky enough to be given a second chance.
Within a few days we were house checked, out for walks together, and then eventually allowed to have Millie over for a sleepover to see if we all got on. Somehow, it all worked out and she has been with us now for two months, and we all love her, including the cats.
Yes, it's life changing - but for the best.
Yes there are muddy paw prints - but she's happy and enjoying her new life, so whats a few more muddy prints.
We all enjoy our walks together in Bushy and Richmond Parks, she's even been kayaking with us, and loves the attention she gets in the studio with everyone around. When we first had her, she had been quite dramatically shaved as she was so matted from her life on the streets. She now has a gorgeous, glossy coat, and we see her relaxing more and more every day into her new lifestyle.
Is this an excuse to constantly put up lots of photos of our fluffy dog - yep!?
She is being the best dog she can be - and the right dog did find us at the right time.
