London Irish Rugby Photo Shoot
It’s a truly varied life we lead. Challenging commissions and great clients.
From photographing food, top chefs and interiors one day to Rugby players and their new kit the next.
The new kit for London Irish has now been officially released, so we can show you what we’ve been up to over the last month, under the watchful eye of Darren Shea from creative agency, The Island.
The project consisted of a number of studio days photographing the products on mannequins, blue screen and table top work, plus a day on location at The Madejksi Stadium, Reading with some of the team.
This was the best bit for me! Armed with croc clips and never afraid to pin up a pair of shorts. Even if they didn’t need pinning up! I’d like to think it was my reward for ironing the entire kit, in every size!
The stadium made a stunning backdrop for the players / kit shots, complemented by an amazing stormy sky and of course Giles’ lighting. Yes, the players really are there. Yes, the sky is real. This is the look the Client wanted, so this is what Giles set up and gave them. No cheating, no need for expensive re-touching, all shot in camera!
This dramatic photo, which went on to win Giles the title of Press/PR/Stock Photographer of the Year 2011, also had a dramatic story to it. Everything had to be set up, lit and ready to shoot as soon as the three International players arrived. As they were tied up with a hectic training schedule for the England team, we had them for less than an hour – the pressure was on! But with a professional team, great lighting and prep and an endless supply of humour from the boys we got the shots we wanted. Got to love those rugby players!
